Good Labels Follow These Criteria

When evaluating labels, test them against the following 5 criteria:

Label Audit Framework

1) Accurate: True to the content

2) Concise: Streamlined; contains just enough words and no more

3) Familiar: Uses meaningful words to describe options and doesn’t require users to already know the offerings

4) Comprehensive: Adequately describes all of the section's content

5) Front-loaded: Starts with the 'most–information-carrying word(s)'
(from Four Dangerous Navigation Approaches that Can Increase Cognitive Strain).
